The BBC has reported that senior doctors are calling for graphic images of injuries to be displayed on firework packaging.
We would echo the sentiments in this article.
In the NHS, where our surgeons work full time, we see a huge number of horrific injuries each year through our A&E department.
The level of heat generated by fireworks is immense. The burns and scars from these can be life changing and permanent.
We would urge anyone to always attend organised displays, keep well back and listen to your own common sense!
The addition of images on packaging would serve to highlight the possible consequences. Although shocking, this type of advertising has proven to be successful in areas such as smoking, for example.
As such, we wholeheartedly endorse their use, however disturbing they may be.
